South East England Development Agency is Closing on March 31, 2012

The Government has announced that all Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), including SEEDA, will close by 31 March 2012.

Responsibility for economic development and regeneration in England is being passed onto successor bodies, including Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and central Government departments

Our objective is to ensure a professional and cost effective closure by this date.  We have pledged to work closely with our partners, contractors and stakeholders to ensure that the past and future economic benefits of key programmes and assets continue to deliver the greatest economic value for the South East and value for money for the taxpayer.

State Aid changes - the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER)

Recent changes to EU legislation means SEEDA has reviewed how it manages State Aid.

We have introduced a scheme under the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER) that sets out the purposes for which SEEDA can award aid (grants), ensure the Agency works within the State Aid rules, and reduces the administrative burden of compliance.

This scheme includes the following conditions:

  • the types of business which are eligible to receive aid under each category;
  • the types of costs (eligible costs) which can be funded for each category;
  • the percentage of the eligible costs which may be funded for each size of undertaking (the aid intensity); and
  • the maximum amount of aid for each category.

SEEDA awards grants under this scheme, in line with the other Regional Development Agencies (RDAs). SEEDA’s scheme document is available here.
