Credit Crunch meeting for local businesses

2 February 2009

Derek Wyatt, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, is working hard to help local businesses through the difficult economic time. He has called a meeting to give small businesses an opportunity to raise and discuss their concerns. This will be held on Friday 6 February. Also, already this year, he has visited a number of local companies to speak one-to-one to bosses about the impact of the Credit Crunch.

Recently, Derek's intervention helped save a Sittingbourne business from financial ruin. In the past couple of weeks, he has also visited and held crisis talks with other companies, including a couple of the constituency's largest employers, to try to avoid financial crises and job losses.

Mr Wyatt said: “Many businesses are really struggling at the moment and I am committed to helping as many as I can to get through this. The Government has offered some relief, such as the cut in VAT, the £10 billion Working Capital Scheme, the £1.3 billion Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme and the £75 million Capital for Enterprise Fund. If we take positive action early enough, we may be able to avoid businesses going under and people being made redundant.”
