SEEDA supports marine industry in Southampton

11 September 2009

Support to help marine businesses buck the recession is the focus of SEEDA's attendance at this year's PSP Southampton Boat Show, 11-20 September 2009.

Chris Hale, SEEDA's marine specialist, is available in the British Marine Federation (BMF) lounge on 11 and 17 September to explain how SEEDA can help businesses grow and develop. He will also provide advice and information on support to help marine businesses survive the recession and prepare for the economic upturn.

The marine sector's contribution to the South East economy is over £14bn and employs 145,000 people - £3.1bn of which is generated by the marine leisure market. SEEDA together with the BMF - the trade association for the leisure and small commercial marine industry - is working to sustain this industry and its importance to the South East.

Jeff Alexander, Executive Director for Competitiveness and Growth, SEEDA said: "SEEDA's attendance at the PSP Southampton Boat Show will publicise the support and advice SEEDA can provide to the marine sector during these challenging economic times. The Boat Show hosts over 600 exhibitors in the design, development, manufacture and construction areas, and attracted over 100,000 visitors last year. Attending is a great way of networking and informing people what is out there in terms of new business opportunities.

"SEEDA is committed to the marine industry in the South East and is working towards sustained growth for both business and tourism."
