SEEDA Welcomes Extension of Chairman’s Contract

11 November 2008

Jim Brathwaite

Jim BraithwaiteSEEDA (South East England Development Agency) today welcomed the news that Chairman Jim Brathwaite’s contract would be extended for a further twelve months, to December 2009, to ensure continuity in the current economic downturn.

SEEDA’s Chief Executive, Pam Alexander, said:

"The South East is the engine of the UK’s economy and it is essential to the whole of the UK that the engine does not stall. Jim has worked hard and successfully to ensure that SEEDA supports businesses, people and places across the whole region to grow sustainably, and to meet challenges boldly and effectively.

With the other eight Regional Development Agency (RDA) chairs, he has become the centre of the Government’s response to the crisis facing many businesses today.

Jim has brought considerable energy and his formidable business experience to SEEDA. He has always believed that his role is to get out into the region and meet business people, local authorities and delivery partners face to face so that SEEDA can respond fast and flexibly to their needs. I know from the regrets being expressed at his expected departure that businesses throughout the region value that experience and believe that his energy and track record of developing strong partnerships will be of great benefit during these economically challenging times. "
