Will Hutton - a leading expert on British and European economic policy from The Work Foundation - was the keynote speaker at the first ever Regional Economic Strategy (RES) Stakeholder Conference for the South East region.

The theme of the meeting was to discuss how to continue reaching RES targets despite a downturn in the economy and credit crunch. Speaking to 150 delegates in Guildford, Surrey, on 4th July, 2008, Will Hutton backed the work of SEEDA, the South East England Development Agency, in fostering strategic collaboration across the region. He said: "London and the South East region constitute the knowledge economy powerhouse of the UK. But safeguarding its future in the South East relies increasingly on the key stakeholders being able to collaborate and co-ordinate their efforts - be they businesses, local authorities, universities, the wider public sector or the voluntary sector. Regional Development Agencies, such as SEEDA, are able to play this strategic brokerage role to foster development across the South East region."
